A Peek Inside Lacey Ryan's Carry On Bag

lacey ryan

Today we're peeking inside the carry on bag of jewelry designer, Lacey Ryan. Her pieces are designed to bring luck, protection and strength to the wearer. Here's what she travels with:

What type of carry on bag do you use?
Whichever bag is closest at the moment with the most room possible!

What are some of your favorite beauty products when traveling?
I always travel with Smashbox tinted moisturizer because I find my skin getting really dry after a long day of traveling and Smith’s Rosebud Salve

What type of music do you like to listen to on the plane?
I like to feel relaxed when traveling and escape into the music. Right now on my iPod is Mumford and Sons, The Temper Trap, Beduoin, Soundclash, The XX, Coldwar Kids, Bon Iver and of course, Adele

Any favorite or recent plane reads?
I like to stock up on magazines in the airport.

What type of sweater or wrap do you usually travel with?
I always have a super soft and large jersey knit scarf

Any favorite plane snacks?
Pretzels and Sour Patch Kids for a mix of sweet and salty

Anything else that you always travel with?
I always travel with a couple of sets of Lacey Ryan bracelets so I can have to mix, match and stack throughout my trip. I also always have my jewelry tools with me...you never know!

A Peek Inside a Lost Girls' Carry On Bag

Amanda Pressner in New Zealand

We knew The Lost Girls before they journeyed around the world (1 year, four continents, three friends) and have followed the trio's adventures ever since. We were able to pin down Amanda Pressner between trips to Jackson Hole and St. Lucia long enough to find out what's in her carry on. If you haven't read the Lost Girls book yet, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy—it's out in paperback this week!

What type of carry on bag do you use?
I just invested in an Eagle Creek Rolling Tote on that's designed to work in conjunction with the brand's space-saving packing cubes. Using their products allows me to break the rule of laying out everything you need for a trip and taking half!

What are some of your favorite beauty products when traveling?
A company called Lypsyl makes a lip balm with the smoothest. lightest texture--it hydrates without leaving your mouth feeling greasy. I also pack Elena Rubinstein's travel friendly skincare line, including toners, moisturizers and under-eye cream. Most bottles are 3 ounces or less, and are concentrated, so you don't have to use as much (and risk running out during your trip).

What type of music do you like to listen to on the plane?
When trying to relax, I'll chill out to ambient tunes in the vein of Sia, Zero Seven or Cafe Del Mar. But most of the time, you'll find me pecking away on my laptop—in fact, I'm heading back to New York from Jackson Hole, Wyoming and answering these questions in flight!

Any favorite or recent plane reads?
I'm a huge sucker for mindless celebrity gossip, so I'll usually grab a Star or US Weekly, and read that first, before I dig into my copy of InStyle or Lucky...I save fashion mags for flights when I really have time to study them and create "must-buy" lists of stuff that I never end up getting! JSG Note: The Lost Girls book is another ideal plane read!

What type of sweater or wrap do you usually travel with?
I'd kind of forgotten about Eddie Bauer until I popped into one of their stores recently and found a fantastic denim jacket that felt cut just for me. I'm also obsessed with SmartWool's layering pieces (shown), as they keep me cozy whether the plane is boiling hot or freezing cold.

Any favorite plane snacks?
On my Jackson trip, I sampled "Tram Bars" which are incredibly addictive granola and chocolate treats that can replace a meal or two snacks. I bought several to throw in my bag for future trips! I do try to eat some kind of whole food item (yogurt, fruits salad, nuts) when I fly since it can be all to easy to grab an Annie Anne's pretzel or a burrito in the airport and feel kinda gross afterward!

Anything else in your carry on?
See question #1—way too much! I've got a pair of OTBT (Off the Beaten Track) boots that look trendy but are comfortable enough to go for miles and miles by foot in a new city. I also pack a ton of scarves for every trip, because you can literally wear black jeans and tee shirt or sweater every day and change the look of your whole outfit by swapping the scarf. And though its a pain to constantly refill the bottles, I bring small sizes of my favorite curly hair products—its worth it to me to have good hair days on the road.

A Peek Inside Mara Hoffman's Carry On Bag

We caught up with famed swimwear designer Mara Hoffman to find out what's in her carry on. Here's what she travels with:

I use a vintage Gucci bag that was my Grandmother's. I'm not a "label" person at all but this bag is so fantastic and there is nothing wrong with some vintage Gucci ;)....OR one of my printed Duffles from my Swim Collection.

What are some of your favorite beauty products when traveling?
LaMer oil absorbing moisturizer, if it's a beach destination then some oil free high spf sunblock, Egyptian Magic, lip mositurizers, and Skintimates shaving cream!!!

What type of music do you like to listen to on the plane?
Depends, I'm a big Bob Dylan fan, or I love mix cd's from friends.

Any favorite or recent plane reads?
As of recently... Hypnobirthing books :)

What type of sweater or wrap do you usually travel with?
One of my cashmere big wraps or a cotton one depending on the season and weather. (The sweater below is from the Mara Hoffman Spring 2011 collection.) I love them because they double as blankets. Also, I am obsessed with African Kikoys and always travel with one, great for covering your eyes on a plane, they also make great turbans once you hit the beach!

Any favorite plane snacks?
Anything hydrating, fruit, tons of water

Anything else?
Sketch books, mechanical pencils, and inflatable neck pillows!

A Peek Inside Rachel of TNI's Carry On

This week we're looking inside Rachel Wolery's carry on bag. Rachel is a co-founder of ZipSetGo.com and host of Traveler's Night In twitter events on Thursdays. Tomorrow's is a biggie--in honor of the first TNI anniversary, the topic is Best of TNI and you can enter to win a Mac Book Air. Join in tomorrow 3:30-5 EST on twitter.

Rachel herself is a self-described travel junkie:
Traveling runs in my family, but I didn’t really catch the bug until I hit college and lived abroad three times in four years.  Once I used my passport, I knew it was something that I was going to make a priority in my life. After a short stint working in public relations, my dream job fell into my lap. For the past 3 years I’ve held various roles for a top 25 meeting and incentive company traveling the world. A year ago three of my colleagues and I created the ZipSetGo.com community to share destination knowledge, and help travelers plan travel fast!"
Here's what Rachel travels with:

I am really into my Cole Haan satchel right now. I love the cross body and shoulder strap, plus there are compartments to keep me organized and plenty of room for an ipad, and a rolled up change of clothes. If I had my way, I would be toting a Vera Wang for Hartmann mobile traveler as well.

What are some of your must have beauty products when you travel?
Some products that I am really loving right now are Say Yes To Cucumbers wipes, they are hydrating, portable and perfect for planes; I can’t put on makeup without using Clinique Even Better first; Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector for  a little color and shine; aviator sunglasses are my quick fix for tired eyes, and  lastly, a small bottle Miss Cherie Dior perfume for when I get off the plane.

What type of sweater or wrap do you use?
I wear a lot of cardigans during any season. Every woman travels with a wrap–those planes get chilly!  I like to buy mine when I travel. My favorites are my rainbow of cashmere pashminas from the Florence markets, and my heavier Ikat designs from Ecuador.
pashmina

What music do you like to listen to when traveling?
I love to nap or read listening to Radiohead, Peter Bjorn and John, Aretha Franklin and Regina Spektor. It's such a treat to have time to do nothing but relax and catch up on reading. When it is almost time to land I listen to more upbeat music like MGMT, Pheonix, and hip-hop.

Any recent or fave plane reads?
On the Road by Jack Kerouac is what I am reading now, it’s such a classic I am almost embarrassed to admit that this is my first time reading it! It’s about the author’s cross country adventure, inspiration to get out and travel. As for magazines, I usually pick up Scientific American Mind, psychology is a close favorite behind travel.

Any fave plane snacks?
I always indulge in a soymilk green tea latte at the airport. I am also really enjoying Kind Bars at Starbucks.

Where have you traveled to recently?
I just got back from a ski vacation to Colorado, hitting the slopes at Vail (below), Breckenridge and Beavercreek and relaxing at night. I love the small mountain towns, they look like they belong inside a snow globe. Before that my family and I went on a vacation to Ecuador, getting off the beaten path and exploring the mountains and markets.

A Peek Inside Bev Sanders' Carry On Bag

As the founder of one of the first snowboarding companies and the Las Olas Surf Safaris for Women, which she currently runs, Bev Sanders has seen the best of the snow and the surf. Her recent travels have taken her to Tuscany, Manhattan, Mexico, Las Vegas--and she's headed back to Mexico, near Puerto Vallarta where the camp is, next week. Here's what she travels with:

My carry on is an old Eagle Creek wheelie bag. It has hide-away shoulder straps for trekking- very old school. I'd love to buy a new carry-on, but this one's like an old friend- we've been around the world. I save the bed sheet packages. Great for packing, and perfect for carrying wet swimsuits home.

What are some of your must-have beauty products on the plane?
Alba Suncreen, Aveda Brilliant Conditioner, MyChelle moisturizer and a small spray bottle of cool water (for my face) so I arrive refreshed.

What type of sweater or wrap do you wear?
A Patagonia fleece jacket works when I'm flying to Mexico, but I like black cashmere if I'm heading to the big city.

Any recent or fave plane reads?
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. It's packed with insight, but light as a feather. Of course, she was the first American woman glider pilot.

Any music playlist for flying?
I love Let Go by Frou Frou. The song makes me feel weightless. Flying is ultimate escape for me and I dream about it constantly.

Anything else you have to have with you when you travel?
I guess I'm an Apple fangirl. I have a MacBook, iPad, and iPhone. Yikes!

Any fave girls' getaway locales?
Come to Las Olas Surf Safaris for Women, we'll share our secret surf spots!

A Peek Inside Rebecca Minkoff's Carry On Bag

She make some of our favorite bags, including the classic Morning After Bag (below) and counts wine-tasting on the North Fork of Log Island as a favorite girls' getaway locale, so we had to know what Rebecaa Minkoff takes with her when she travels:

I currently use a Samsonite bag, it's durable and I feel like they thought of all the needed compartments.

What are some of your must have beauty products on the plane?
Moisturizer, Chapstick and Darphin Eye Cream.

What type of sweater or wrap do you wear?
A cashmere one.

Any recent or fave plane reads?
The History of Love is one of my fave books.

What music do you listen too when flying?
Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes and Florence and the Machine.

Anything else you have to have with you when you travel?
Water and a scarf. I always get cold on the plane!

Where have you gone recently and where are you headed?
I went on a month long tour this fall to Paris, London, Italy, Korea, and China. Next destination is Mexico for a vacation!

A Peek Inside the Ladies of 3floz.com Carry On, Part 2

Last week, we looked inside the carry on bag of Kate Duff (right), co-founder of 3floz.com. This week, we've got our eye on her partner's Alexi Mintz (left) carry on. Here's what Alexi, who recently got back from a four day getaway to Bardados takes with her when she's on the road:

My carry on bag is organized chaos! I travel with two carry on’s- my luggage carry on and my work carry on. All my clothes are rolled in my luggage carry on and my purse is emptied and put in my luggage carry on. My work carry on is the big Marc by Marc Jacobs tote that holds everything- my computer, ipod, blackberry, wallet, magazine’s, snacks, socks- my feet always get cold on the plane! etc.

What are some of your must have beauty products?

On the plane I carry my must have’s in my work carry on: Archipelago Milk Lip Balm and Soy Lotion, Air Repair Facial Mist, Yes to Carrots towelettes. In my toiletry bag I carry: Somme Mobile Kit, Alterna Shampoo/Conditioner, Jonathan Dirt Hair Spray, Blow Weather Girl (came in super handy in the humidity of Barbados), Philip B Nordic Wood Body Shampoo and Conditioner and David Kirsch Vitamins.

Any current or fave plane reads?
My guilty pleasure is to purchase all the trashy magazines at Hudson news before I get on the flight. I pack all the magazines I haven’t had a chance to read (Inc, Fast Company, New York Magazine, Business Week) and will read one serious magazine followed by one trashy magazine. Lately I’ve been working during flight so I don’t read books- just my magazines.

What do you have on your iPod when you travel?
Music keeps me sane so I’ve got a lot on the IPod- lately I’ve been listening to: the XX, MMJ, Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem, Prince, Cold War Kids, Tallest Man on Earth, Friendly Fires, Interpol, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire, Biggie Smalls, Kanye, The National…

Do you have a favorite wrap or sweater?
Yes, I have a long black open sweater that I always wear on the plane- where ever my destination is- it doubles as a warmer cover up if needed. I travel with a scarf as well.

Any fave plane snacks?
I pack an apple and a Cliff Bar and at the airport I always buy a water

A Peek Inside the Ladies of 3floz.com's Carry On

They're the founders of 3floz.com, a site dedicated to travel sized products, so who better to ask than Alexi Mintz (left) and Kate Duff (right) what they stash in their carry ons. Here's what Kate had to say (check back later this week for Alexi's carry on):

My carry on bag involves a lot of small bags. I like everything to have a place so I have a lot of those Toss s/3 bags in different sizes with my toiletries, beauty products, socks. I use shoe bags for my under garments and roll my clothes. I will take a picture one of these days because the organization is impressive.

What are some of your must have beauty products (lip balm, hair products, moisturizer)?

I never leave home without my Air Repair Beauty Balm I use it for my cuticles, lips, hands, feet, cuts it is truly an all purpose salve. I always have my Somme Institute Mobile Kit, Herban essential sanitizing towelettes and I have recently added Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Dry Shampoo to my must haves, it is a LIFE SAVER when I have to look fresh after a long flight.

Any current or fave plane reads?

Where do you think Alexi got her trashy magazine habit?

What do you have on your iPod when you travel?

I always have audiobooks on my ipod, I know I am a geek. I recently finished Delivery Happiness-A Path to profits, passion, and purpose by Tony Hseih the CEO of Zappos.com, INC, talk about inspiration.

Do you have a favorite wrap or sweater?

My favorite sweater/wrap (it’s a wrap with sleeves) is from Club Monaco. I stole from Alexi when we were traveling on business 3-4 years ago. SHHHHH don’t tell her!

Any fave plane snacks?

My favorite plane snacks are BBQ Pop chips, peanut butter Lara Bars and LOTS of water.

Where are some place you've been to recently or have planned?

I just got back from the horse races in Kentucky and went home to Chicago for Thanksgiving!

A Peek Inside Katharine Sise's Carry On Bag

Katharine Sise, author of Creative Girl, has been everywhere from South Africa to China to Belize. Here's what your likely to find in her carry on.

My carry on bag is a dark brown Balenciaga Motorcycle Le Dix bag that I’ve worn into the ground, but can’t give up! My husband hunted it down for my birthday four years ago, and I’ve carried it ever since. It’s gone through two leather restringing revivals. It’s the perfect airplane carry on size for my stash of grandmother-candies (the old school plastic wrapped cinnamon and orange flavored kind), my passport, a tiny notebook, makeup, moisturizer, and most important: great books.

What are some of your must have beauty products (lip balm, hair products, moisturizer)?

Recently, I’ve been on an all natural and organic beauty product craze. I love Nude’s Cleansing Facial Oil and Replenishing Night Oil after a long day of travel. Tarte cosmetics is my favorite line of natural makeup and organic beauty products that are eco-friendly and cruelty-free. The Eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer is perfect for camouflaging dark circles after a redeye flight. Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes! (shown) Mascara is another favorite. It’s never too heavy—so you can reapply on the runway before you deplane. Lipstick Queen makes an incredible lip gloss called Fired Up. It instantly brightens a tired face. For hands, nothing beats Ellen Sirot’s line of hand care called Hand Perfection. She has some great travel-sized products to choose from, like Complete Day Cream Purse Size and Nail and Cuticle Treatment.
My hair never ceases to be an unruly mess, so I always carry Sachajuan Ocean Mist, a Swedish miracle spray I stock up on at Whittemore House Salon in the West Village. It gives your hair a natural twist that makes it look like you’ve spent hours at the beach (instead of mashed against your seat on an airplane.) As far as relaxation, a friend of mine with airplane-anxiety swears by Tata Harper Aromatherapy.

Any current or fave plane reads?

Reading is just about my favorite thing in the world (even more so than beauty products!) On my most recent trip, I read three of my friends’ young adult novels: Micol Ostow’s, So Punk Rock, Anna Carey’s Sloane Sisters, and Aimee Friedman’s, Sea Change. They were all excellent. I also loved The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf and I Love a Man in Uniform by Lily Burana. If you’re looking for a mystery, pick up anything by Jan Brogan. And you can’t go wrong with Tana French. I read her first book, Into the Woods, on a trip to Belize. I took her second book, The Likeness, on a trip to India. Both kept me up at night. She really gets your imagination going!

What do you have on your iPod when you travel?
Kings of Leon, Frou Frou, and my new favorite, Emily Greene. Music by Ashana is great if you’re trying to relax or fall asleep.

Any fave plane snacks?
I have a pretty massive sweet tooth. I once brought a stack of First Prize Pies mini-size-pies for the hostess we were traveling to visit , and couldn’t help but break out one of them to eat during the plane ride. I should have checked my luggage to avoid the temptation. My airplane snack staples are Roni-Sue’s chocolates (my favorite chocolates of all time), apple cinnamon soy chips, and ginger candies. A weird combination, but delicious! I’ve definitely been known to ask for two snacks on the airplane. It mortifies my husband, but those airplane cookies always hit the spot.

Do you have a favorite wrap or sweater?
Thistle and Clover sells a cotton blazer by Joie that’s perfect for keeping you warm and comfortable, but still looks a bit dressed up.

I’m currently coveting every wrap and sweater sold at Castor and Pollux in New York City. It’s the best spot for finding luxurious clothing you want to wrap yourself in on the plane! This scarf is my favorite on their shelves.

My go-to airplane staple is an over-sized scarf by Asli Filinta that covers my top half. Asli has a collection of scarves that connect in the center, so that your scarf doesn’t unravel and fall into the aisle if you fall asleep on the plane. After all, you can’t annoy the flight attendant if you plan to ask for two snacks. I love this one she designed for Target:

Where are some places you've been to recently or have planned?

I’ve been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling during the past couple of years. Having a flexible schedule as a writer and jewelry designer makes it much easier to find travel deals and fly at the last minute. I visited South Africa to visit my sister while she worked as a doctor in Durban. While there, I did a shark dive—terrifying but amazing! I made a volunteer trip with my dad to Lourdes, France and helped take care of a five-year-old boy there named Louie. I wore a 1940s-esque nurse uniform for six days while volunteering and had one of the best weeks of my life. I traveled with my mom and sister to see the pyramids in Egypt. My husband is less adventurous, travel-wise, so we took a great vacation to Belize a little over a year ago and laid-low on the beach. I traveled with my good buddy Jen to see China—it’s great when you have a friend you travel well with. Most recently, my mom and I went to India and got to meet the Dalai Lama. It was incredible. I did each trip on a budget that didn’t break the bank, but nothing gets my creative juices going like travel!

A Peek Inside Jeanie Syfu's Carry On Bag

Jeanie Syfu

One of of favorite events of every fashion week is attending TRESemme's behind-the-scenes cocktail party with hairstylist. Jeannie is always there, fresh from styling hot shows like Tracey Reese and Charlotte Ronson. We had to know what Jeannie's must have travel items are:

What are some of your must have beauty products (lip balm, hair products, moisturizer)?
Lotion!  I get so dry in planes so I love to hydrate.  I love The Healthy Body Butter in Lavanilla, LaMer, EF Studio Lip Balm, Shisedo Retinol Eye Patch Treatments and TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.

Any current or fave plane reads?
I have two very funny books I can put down and pick up whenever – Chelsea Handler’s My Horinzontal Life and the other is You’re a Horrible Person, But I Like You.  Both books put big cheesy smiles on my face.  Important for when you are flying!

What do you have on your iPod when you travel?
I always have been a music-head, so I have some really great DJ sets from DR Harvey, David Mancuso and Optimo.  I also love to soothe my soul after a long by listening to Camille, of The Veils.

Do you have a favorite wrap or sweater?
My favorite sweater at the moment is by Neal Sperling, which I picked up from Urban Outfitters.  It’s slouchy with big bat sleeves and I can throw it over just about anything.

Any fave plane snacks?
Snacks on a plane, that could be dangerous!  I always try to have something healthy like almonds, but then I break down and have gummy bears!  I try to drink lots of water and stay from soda, coffee and alcohol.

Where are some place you've been to recently or have planned?
My last major trip was to Australia about a year ago.  I haven’t had a major trip in a while since I’ve been busy filming “The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection” and working New York Fashion Week.  Recently I’ve driven with friends to the Catskills and stayed at Lazy Meadows.  It’s my favorite place to go local for a quick getaway!

A Peek Inside Amoy Pitters Carry On

As watchers of Oxygen's House of Glam know, hairstylist Amoy Pitters is constantly on the go, working with a diverse group of celebs including Alicia Keys, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rutherford, Kerry Washington, Mary J. Blige, Joy Bryant and Selita Ebanks. Here's what the super stylist carries in her bag when travels to places like Cabo, Paris, and Moscow. On her wish list are Seychelles and to Shanghai!

I usually carry a Louis Vuitton carry-on pully suitcase.

My beauty must-haves for travel are: Amoy Couture Hair serum, Jo Malone Lip Balm, Christian Dior's mascara, and Biotherm's Body Milk.

I don't like to listen to music when I travel. I like to write in my journal, planning my life step-by-step. I love my iPad! On it, I read E. Lynn Harris, and anything Malcolm Gladwell. I also catching up on my old New Yorkers and The Economist is great.

To stay warm, I need my huge Chanel cashmere wrap. It's very soft and yummy.

I snack on almonds and drink LOTS of water. I am a sucker for jellybeans, though.

Seychelles and to Shanghai are on my wish list of places to go!

A Peek Inside Andrea Lavinthal's Carry On Bag

andrea lavinthal carry on

Andrea Lavinthal is the author of the new, must-read guide for everyone in her 20s, Your So-Called Life: A Guide to Boys, Body Issues, and Other Big-Girl Drama You Thought You Would Have Figured Out by Now. The book is available starting September 14, so how do we already know it's going to be a bestseller? Because we got a sneak peek at a review copy and Andrea and her co-author Jessica Rozler share advice in a relatable and humorous way on everything from dating, to work to decorating to modern manners -- plus JSG gets a shout out!!! We wish we had this kind of cool, big sisterly advice when we were in our 20s, it would have made growing up so much easier!
andrea lavinthal carry on bag

Since she's so wise about everything else, we wanted to know what Andrea will be packing when she hits the road for her book tour:

My carry on is the Beirn Jenna Tote (mine is grey and white snakeskin) and has been my go-to carry on since I received it as a gift last year. The featherweight bag is spacious enough to fit all my travel necessities and it has lots of pockets for easy access to my driver’s license, boarding pass, and candy. Plus, it’s chic enough to use as my day bag at my destination (which is exactly what I did on a recent work trips to Miami).

andrea lavinthal carry on handbag

I keep my must-have liquid beauty products in a quart-sized Ziploc bag at all times so I can just toss it in my carry-on. Inside you’ll find Smith Rosebud Salve (for dry lips and cuticles), a travel-sized Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist (to keep my skin hydrated and the area around my seat smelling fresh), Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (the perfect amount of coverage, plus SPF 30), Philosophy The Supernatural Lit From Within (my favorite cream blush), and Lavanila Vanilla Coconut Roller-Ball (beach in a bottle).

In addition, I always bring one of my Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers (I’m a total freak about curling my eyelashes, even if my flight is at 6 a.m.) and my Trish McEvoy Blueberry Vanilla Travel Candle (you never know when you’re going to get stuck in a malodorous hotel room off a highway in Rhode Island).

andrea lavinthal carry on candle

I usually wear a gray J. Crew cashmere hoodie on the plane, but I also stuff a cashmere blanket in my bag for taking naps at the hotel. Most places don't have nice throw blankets in the rooms, and even if they did, I would feel weird about using one.

When I travel, I use the iPod on my iPhone, which I've stored with all of my favorite rock bands including The Black Keys (shown), Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, The Black Crowes, Grateful Dead, Kings of Leon. Oh, and Taylor Swift.

Before I get on a plane, I spend at least $30 on magazines at Hudson News so I have tons of reading material. And since I'm a total magazine hoarder, I schlep them home with me even if I've read them front to back. I also bring my latest book club read (just finished the young adult novel, Before I Fall, by Lauren Olivier).

I make believe that I'm a healthy traveler by bringing a bunch of Kind bars (the best flavor is Apricot & Almond) and a huge bottle of water. But once I get on the plane, I order a Diet Coke and rip into some Strawberry Mentos and Rolos. And if someone in my vicinity has a bag of Planters Nut & Chocolate Trail Mix, I will fantasize about ripping it out of their hands while they sleep. I know, totally sane.

I have about 20 pictures of my dog Hudson on my phone and I like to look at them while I'm on the plane. I sometimes force the person sitting next to me to do the same.

Even though I'm 30 years old, I travel with two things that you're more likely to find in the bag of someone less than half my age. The first is my beloved Ugly Doll Babbo. He was a gift from someone special and he’s been to Paris, Monaco, Berlin, and Venice. (That's a pic of him at the amazing Hotel de Rome in Berlin.)

My other must have is a full season of Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls on DVD. I watch them on my laptop while tuning out the other passengers on the plane and also like to enjoy these two gone-but-not-forgotten shows in my hotel room while chowing down room service and snuggling under my cashmere blanket. It's a glamorous life I lead.
