At this point in time most non-enthusiasts are barely comfortable reinstalling an OS. They'd be totally lost if OS X wasn't on a disc. I'm sure Apple doesn't want to have to deal with all the extra support calls and will provide Lion on DVD for any Mac that has a SuperDrive. DVDs are on their way out but still have a lot of mainstream life in them.

I suspect the next iPhone, released in June, July, or September will be largely unchanged from the 4. An A5, sure. Maybe higher storage capacities. A "world" model, from what the Verizon exec said. Black or white. That's about it.My thoughts exactly.

Frankly Apple should just commit to Thunderbolt and put those ports right on there. There is really no need for any other port.
Except they want to sell iPhones and iPads to PC owners who will probably have USB3, not Thunderbolt.

According to the press release, these six airlines will begin offering their passengers iPod seat connections which power and charge their iPods during flight and allow the video content on their iPods to be viewed on the their seat back displays. The press release did not specify whether the iPod integration would be a first-class accommodation, as presumably that designation would be up to the individual airlines.

It seems that most people are not aware of the fact that 30 is large enough sample for almost any population, and that the main challenge is not in increasing the sample size, it's in making it truly random.
This. You want a simple random sample, a sample size greater than 30, and a population size greater than ten times your sample size.
As a statistician, it always simultaneously amuses and disappoints me when people say "xxx isn't a large enough sample size!"
Usually the sample size is completely adequate, and it's only that the sampling technique was flawed. It's extremely difficult to get an unbiased sample when doing a survey.
By the way, why is everyone saying people in the Midwest don't buy iPads? I live in the Midwest and will be getting an iPad 2 soon. Yes...probably Verizon.

Anecdotally, it sure seems there are more Verizon models available than the ATT. Hmm. I got a VZ b/c the ATT were sold out the day after launch. I'm fine with it so far.

Can't believe aperture doesn't support more RAW types yet.
Until it supports more/all of the raw types, it will never be a real 'pro' application imho
Aperture only uses the RAW formats that OS X uses. When 1.4.8 comes out it will support more.

just so you know, mac pro NEVER had, let along past tense, Core 2 Duo (or Core 2 Dou)
Woodcrest (Xeon), as much as it might have the similar technology underlying its processor, is NOT Core 2 Duo.

So I've been loosely paying attention to this... what are the CPU/video requirements? I remember 2+ years ago there was aforum member who was a Blizzard employee saying there was a teenie tiny chance they would support powerPC ( which I know they're not doing now... that was 2 years ago )
But is it even possible to dream about playing this on say a Mac Mini with a Core 2 Duo ?

Is not true: a 50mm EF lens and a 50mm EF-s lens will have the same focal length and field of view on a crop camera.
I don't think that's true. I pretty much know it's not actually.
Shooting a 50mm on a 5d will produce a focal length of 50mm and a Field of view of 50mm. (50x1+50)
Shooting a 50mm on a 7d will produce a focal length of of 50mm and a field of view of 80mm. (50x1.6=80)
Part of the reason these two cameras exist is because one of them (5d) is full frame, awesome pictures for weddings say. Slow fps but that's not what it's for.
The 7d however is aimed at sports photogs or wildlife for example. Still an awesome picture, but loses some of it (including aperture, and the fact you can't get as smaller dof, and ISO and the fact you can't get the same low light abilities) for a much faster fps. The focal length multiplier will also help so that you can get closer to the picture with the same lens.
Same with their top two cameras one is the ultimate full frame camera (the 1D-s mkIII), the other is the ultimate crop (1.3) camera (the 1d mkIV).
If there was no difference they wouldn't do it.

The combined line-in/out jack on the newest Macs certainly DOES supply a small amount of power for the mic built into the iPhone headphones. The separate line in port on older Macs doesn't, but the headphone port does supply power (on my 2009 MBP at least). It's not the same amount of power as the mic port on PCs, but it's similar. The mic on an analogue headset designed for a PC has never worked on a Mac. The old Plaintalk mics back in the beige Mac days used to have a really long connector, so the tip would touch the power part of the socket in the Mac.
Once again, I was never talking about the audio out port that also has mic capabilities for iPhone headsets that there are very few of. I was talking about the line-in jack that is useless and does not support power for a typical headset.

You should have worried more when cell phones got GPS for emergency response service. GPS allows real tracking, and phones allow long-range data transmission, all tied to your phone account, address and payment info.
In the face of that, how does adding a radio tag (as already used for lots of things) that communicates a few inches make a phone so much scarier?

Somehow I was expecting to see a lot more praise and excitement for the 3DS after it launched....
The 3D effect seems to trigger mixed reactions. Other than that...there really doesn't seem to be anything truly exciting about it? I don't see any "wow, those graphics!!" or "holy cow, this thing is fast/powerful" type comments.
The general vibe I am getting from here and other places is more like "pretty neat", rather than "wow, so awesome". :confused:
I think it's because the launch titles suck.
I like the 3D effect. It feels like you're looking into a box, instead of at a screen. Headaches, losing the sweet spot, etc, are a non-factor for me. And what they did with the AR is pretty awesome.
But no killer game. Which makes it a revolutionary piece of hardware that barely has anything to show off what it can do.

that's exactly what i was wondering about! i don't know if EU regulations apply to the ipad, but they certainly do apply to the iphone. and i think, apple has to include a miniUSB port (standardized charger) to the iphone 5 if they want to sell it here in europe. a simply dock connector just won't do.
