Don't be fooled by that fake "Facebook Dislike button"

As I opened my Facebook account and then I saw this two message posted in my FB wall, I started to read it careful and study if this is legit, and then I hovered my mouse arrow pointing to that link "Enable Dislike Button", then I saw that the link will direct to a Facebook fake page. I didn't think twice and I immediately remove this post in my wall. I started to do a research and found an article "'Enable Dislike Button' scam spreading on Facebook" , After reading it... I learned that the Facebook Dislike Button is a fake and a scam. If ever that Facebook will have its own Dislike button, there will be announcements and also news spreading online, so its better to Google it first, research and read, before we click it.

Its funny that some people wanted to earn money and they got the idea to use this FB app to scam people with their money generating online survey recommendation. Although that the directed link to website is not harmless, but still an annoying item in my FB wall to see a fake FB links floating. If you saw one...delete it right away and do not click it. If you click the link and posted the link in your address bar, all of your FB network and friends will receive the same FB app note in their wall, telling them to enable their FB dislike buttons.

Facebook users should be very careful and aware of these fake FB apps and links

Philippines – the social networking capital of the world

P4071748
Facebook logo, Twitter and RSS posted on the windows of Kitch Cafe in Makati City.

This is the new nickname that our country just received after a report came in online and our country got the number 1 spot as the most heavy user of Facebook in the world, there are other countries that are actively using Facebook, but this time the stats and numbers give the story and I know that the local mainstream media is a big influence on this number and give a big push to all of us here to use Facebook. Watch TV,check out the news, or see advertisement, all of them bear the Facebook logo. (More story below)

I first read the news here at Carlo’s blog http://www.newmedia.com.ph/philippines-is-the-social-networking-capital-of-the-world/ and he explained that “Philippines has the highest penetration of Facebook in the world at 93.9%. Penetration means the total number of Facebook users vs the total number of Internet users in the Philippines.”

The main source of the news came here at http://247wallst.com/2011/05/09/the-ten-nations-where-facebook-rules-the-internet/ and they showed here the Top 10 nations where Facebook rules the net, and they gave a nice stats based on data provided by comScore, Inside Facebook, New Media Trend Watch, and ZDNet and announced that the Philippines is the number 1 users of Facebook.

here’s the stat

1. Philippines
> Facebook: 93.9%
> Twitter: 16.1%
> LinkedIn: 1.9%
> Internet Use: 29.7%

My prediction was right last year that Facebook will dominate our screens and now I’m a little bit scared that we are the heaviest users of Facebook and this will attract lots of Facebook activities in the coming months. I’m not really sure if networking and community building is still good in Facebook for your company or small communities, but I still suggest that we should start moving and not rely on Facebook forever, there might be a time that Facebook can be the next Friendster hahahah. But still, Facebook rocks and I’m still looking for other alternatives and how do I maintain my online community there.

Big Questions come into my mind like “what if Facebook is gone after we woke up in the morning?” . The question and answer is similar to.. When Plurk is down.we move back to Twitter..but that was the old story…everyone now sticks to Twitter…and if Twitter is down then everyone moves back to Facebook. Maybe my answer will be, “I’ll go back to Twitter and Multiply if ever Facebook crashes down”, a good example also is that…I heavily use Facebook and Twitter after Blogger.com is down.

Although that the news can also show that our internet service, connection and access are doing good, broadband or even mobile are now semi-perfectly working fine and then in the coming months if SMART’s LTE and Globe’s HSPA+ launches in every part of the city, the continued growth of Facebook users will be doubled, because the access to any internet connection will affect the stats again and also bring more users to social networking sites.

So what’s your take as our country, the Philippines, as the SOCIAL NETWORKING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD ?

Pacquiao, Bebeng and the other Top 10 Trending searches on Yahoo! Philippines

image
I posted this content in my blog and then the content was gone after a problem with blogger.com, but I’m bringing it back again here. Here are the top 10 trending searches that happened last week. Thanks to our friends at Yahoo! Philippines for sending this info.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Eight-division world champion and Philippines’ Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao successfully defended his welterweight title against American boxer Shane Mosley on Saturday night. “I fought the best fighter in the world,” Agence Presse quoted Mosley. Pacquiao wore yellow gloves and asked spectators and supporters to choose yellow as a sign of unity in the country’s fight for poverty. Observers instead noticed the expensive jewelry that his wife wore during the boxing event.

Tropical Storm Bebeng: Searches for the latest weather updates increased as this year’s second tropical cyclone in the country brought rains in Luzon and Visayas after weeks of hot weather. Bagyong Bebeng (International name: Aere) became a tropical storm on Friday, unleashed rains and caused landslides, and killed 15. It also left inter-island commuters stranded and several domestic flights canceled. Nine ground crew of the Philippine Airlines were also injured when a lightning struck an Airbus 320 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Merceditas Gutierrez: Former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez resigned on April 29, 10 days before the start of her impeachment trial for her alleged inaction on the P728-million fertilizer fund scam and other scandals in the Arroyo administration. The senate shelved the impeachment complaint against Gutierrez, resulting in activist groups filing obstruction and perjury charges against the former Ombudsman.

Blessed John Paul II: A week after his beatification, Pope John Paul II is still buzzing on Yahoo! Search logs. The late pontiff nears sainthood as Pope Benedict XVI on May 1 declared his predecessor as “blessed” before a crowd of more than one million at the St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.

Dianne Necio: Dianne Necio was caught off guard when a male fan reportedly stole a kiss and touched her breasts at the Mutya ng Magayon 2011 coronation night. The police arrested the daring fan.

Princess Eugenie: Well beyond the Royal Wedding, Yahoo! Philippines users were still searching for members of the British Royal family. Most popular among them during the past week is Princess Eugenie, cousin of Princes William and Harry. Also in the logs are Queen Elizabeth, Princess Beatrice, Princess Diana, and Queen Victoria.

Mother’s Day: According Yahoo Search Trends, Filipino users searched the Web mostly in search of Mother’s Day greeting cards and quotes.

Fast and Furious 5: Released in the US as “Fast Five,” the fifth installment of the street racing action film which is now showing in the Philippines has shown a remarkable increase in search by Yahoo! users.

I am Legend: This Koreanovela that stars Kim Jung Eun of "Lovers in Paris" fame premiered on ABS-CBN on May 2. The story is about an emotionally abused wife who decided to pursue her own career: she relived her rock band roots and became a band leader.

Patrick Meneses:  Bulacan Mayor Patrick Meneses, filed a libel case against his ex-girlfriend Aiko Melendez for allegedly insinuating that he is gay.  Meneses appeared on TV 5’s “Paparazzi” on April 24 to speak about his breakup with the actress-politician. Instead he was caught off-guard when TV host Cristy Fermin showed him the Twitter messages between Melendez and a friend who cast doubt on Meneses’s sexuality. Melendez said she never doubted Menenes’s sexuality as she denied orchestrating a smear campaign against him.

Yahoo! Search Trends aggregates millions of searches performed every day across Yahoo! properties to give the pulse on what people are thinking and talking about. Searches represent the people and what matters to them most; from fleeting moods to entrenched attitudes of Internet users across the world.

Friendster will move to a new site and deletes all your content this May 31st

fr
Oh my god! I don’t know if I can add this to the April-May 2011 end of service drama, but its not the news that Friendster will shutdown, but the news is that they announced that a new Friendster site is coming up and they ask all their users to download all of the content we have in our profile account by using their exporter application, save all content in our Pc or…. export all photos to other 3rd party sites such as Flickr and etc. The big move just started and everything will be deleted on May 31, 2011.
(more news below)

If you still love your Friendster account, then read and follow their instructions posted at http://friendster.ehclients.com/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=48

I consider Friendster as my baul or time capsule, as it host all funny memories from the past and I was a heavy user of their site just like in Multiply and Facebook. Its kinda a pain in my side to do all the exporting stuff to my PC and to other sites.. I just hope that the exporter app works well and downloads everything in a nice order and organized well.

here’s what they say on their announcement page
-----------
Your Friendster account will not be deleted. You will still have the same email login and password in the new Friendster. Also, your list of friends will be preserved, along with your basic profile information. However, all the photos, messages, comments, testimonials, shoutouts, blogs, forums and groups that you may have now will no longer be part of your account by May 31, 2011.

We understand that your photos, blogs and other private data are important to you. An application is available in the "Apps" section of the site, until May 31, 2011, to help you download or export them securely to third party sites, such as Flickr or Multiply. The application is available here.

------
We are introducing a new and improved Friendster in the coming weeks that will be focused on entertainment and fun. There will be new features that will leverage on your online activities and will enable you to connect with friends or engage new friends with similar interests.
For example, if you are playing games or listening to music but none of your friends are, your social experience may be limited. Our improved site is designed to create new profiles that allow you to connect differently with people and do things differently than other networking sites. Basically, the new site will complement your existing online presence in other social networking sites.
Your Friendster account will not be deleted when these new features and changes take place. You may continue to login to Friendster using your existing login details. Your list of friends will be preserved, along with your basic profile information, wallet and games.

Stay tuned for the new Friendster's Beta version!

---------

What do you think? Will you spare your time to save all of your profile and content or let it go and move on?

let's have one more last dance for Friendster..

add me in Friendster and post a testi for me

Flock browser will end this April 26

 image
Here’s another end of service drama that hits all Flock browser user, and yes.. I’m one of them. This browser was introduced to me by my sis and after install it, I used it again after 4 months, because of my busy schedule and I forgot to use it and try it and misses a lot of the browser’s feature in cross posting status infos to 2 different social network like Twitter and Facebook, I can even monitor all status updates in real time by looking at the right side bar of my Flock browser..(more story below)

But then, Flock announced that they will stop updating and give support of service this coming April 26, the browser was bought by another company and looks like that all terms and services has been passed to this company. Oh well..another end of service drama… I’m now converting myself to Rockmelt browser. Even that the Flock browser died, but the technology behind it and as the supreme leader as a social media browser, might relaunch soon under Zynga and might use their Flock’s tech for their social media games.

For me, Flock is the best browser with social network monitoring and posting features.

Here’s a last look to my Flock browser
flock

Here’s their email last week to all users

Flock Official End of Support Notice

Google Videos playback will end this April 29

Go to Google Videos home
I love uploading some of my videos in Google Video and because of their video upload client from my desktop, I can upload videos without using any of my browser and its fun, because the video at Google Video are much more lighter and easy to view it. Then last 2009, I tried to upload another set of videos and found out that the upload button or link are no longer visible and then my uploading app no longer works too.  (More story below)

Then I decided just to use my Multiply Video or YouTube, Then fast forward to this year, I received an email update that the Google Video playback will be discontinued and end it this April 29. Now they tell us we have the option to download the video or migrate it to our YouTube. Then I read some of their past updates and discovered that they focused more on developing that video search for Google and decided to drop down the Google Video. Well, its okay for me, because Youtube works perfectly fine and most of my videos are already hosted there. Its a good run for Google Video and I like to say good bye to them and thanks for hosting some of my vids for work, for my family, and for my blog.

here’s their email to all Google Video users

Dear Google Video User,
Last week we sent an email letting you know we would be ending playbacks of Google Videos on April 29 and providing instructions on how to download videos currently hosted on the platform. Since then we’ve received feedback from you about making the migration off of Google Video easier. We work every day to make sure you have a great user experience and should have done better. Based on your feedback, here’s what we’re doing to fix things.
Google Video users can rest assured that they won't be losing any of their content and we are eliminating the April 29 deadline. We will be working to automatically migrate your Google Videos to YouTube. In the meantime, your videos hosted on Google Video will remain accessible on the web and existing links to Google Videos will remain accessible. If you want to migrate to YouTube now, here’s how you do it:

  • We’ve created an “Upload Videos to YouTube” option on the Google Video status page. To do this, you’ll need to have a YouTube account associated with your Google Video account (you can create one here). Before doing this you should read YouTube’s Terms of Use and Copyright Policies. If you choose this option, we’ll do our best to ensure your existing Google Video links continue to function.

If you’d prefer to download your videos from Google Video, that option is still available.
As we said nearly two years ago, the team is now focused on tackling the tough challenge of video search. We want to thank the millions of people around the world who have taken the time to create and share videos on Google Video. We hope today's improvements will help ease your transition to another video hosting service.

Thank you for being a Google Video user.
Sincerely,
Mark Dochtermann Google Video Team

You have received this mandatory email service announcement to update you about important changes to Google Video and your Google Video account.

I went to Google Video account and saw that I have already a total of 40 videos stored…now Its hard to decide on my side if I will let the video stay and be deleted or migrate it in my Youtube. I’m so lazy in migrating it and setting it up as “unlisted” in Youtube one by one is another task I should do.

hmm..ok, I’ll set it up myself next time I’ll be free before April 29

Did you encounter this Facebook Auto Chat Virus ?

Facebook logo
I use Facebook everyday and every hour,I spend my time reading all status updates and check for the latest trends happening online. I also encounter weird Facebook shotgun Likes invitations, weird photo tags and now the Facebook Auto Chat (virus).

you might encounter incoming chat from your friends and network and they post weird messages like

"lol, have you seen your picture? its so funny!"

"just give me a call when you read this"

Sometimes the Facebook incoming chats are funny, others are weird...and some have a lot of drama. I receive this chats last week and I think my Facebook chat is also infected, and to prevent the spread of the worm or virus, I manually disabled my Facebook chat for good, so that I won't receive any of those weird messages and also to prevent the spread the worm, if ever I am infected, because I can't really tell.

Here's a funny incident that happened today, I was on a meeting with my colleagues, then my phone rang and a Facebook friend called me to check me if I am okay, and then I told him that I'm okay and what's up, we were suppose to meet last week and I canceled our meet up because I'm sick and I was wondering that my friend here might get another sched for us to meet.

Then he told me that he received a Facebook chat from me and it says that I should give him a call, and I am shocked after I heard that and told my friend that my Facebook chat is disabled and I'm not online. So that means the Facebook Auto Chat worm or virus can still use the chat engine of Facebook and still sends messages even that you are offline or disconnected from the internet. Wow!! how did they do that?

I started some research and saw that there's no news about this Facebook auto chat sessions from a virus, but I read that many forumers are offering anti virus removal for your computers, I' m very careful in downloading fix and tool kit, but I suggest to everyone that you should be very careful in downloading these tool kit, because we can't guarantee if that will work.

I know people at Facebook are working on their shell to solve this issues, and I do hope that they can inform us if it is complete solved or not..

So be very careful!

Just remember..

1. If someone posted a photo in your wall and contains a link like the "video of a kid committed suicide on camera" or "Miley Cyrus is a naughty girl and naked" . Just delete it and don't ever click on the link.

2. Same goes to Facebook app, there are apps that can redirect you to a website containing malicious sites that will auto download some harmful files in your computer,if someone invited you, just dont click it.

3. Never give any details about your personal profile in Facebook, if someone ask you in a chat or in a message.

4. Always check the url of your Facebook, or a link that was sent to you via email, sometimes a face Facebook notification arrives in your email inbox and say that you receive a tag from a friend and when you click on a link, it will direct you this fake Facebook site and it will steal your passwords and profile.

5. If you don't know what to do, just post a question in your wall and someone from your friends can help you what to do.

ok that's all folks!

Ok after I wrote this post, I saw this news just now

Yahoo! Philippines Purple Hunt is back! win a Purple Hyundai i10 car

The big treasure hunt contest is back! The Yahoo! Philippines Puple Hunt contest is now here on its 2nd year this 2011. The internet and web surfers will be busy again in lots of guessing games and hunt for that item or name the location of that purple sticker. I remember that I joined the hunt online and its very difficult to guess the exact address of a location that shows they have the purple sticker.

But today, the contest is new and looks like that you need to have a fast mouse clicking finger and a Yahoo! Messenger. I'm excited and I'm going to register again.. even that I lose on the last contest, I still wish for a Yahoo! Purple t-shirt :(

wow! purple car!

read the news below

-- press release --

MANILA, 17 March 2011 – Online treasure hunters are in for a purple treat because this March 2011, Yahoo! is bringing back the Purple Hunt 2.0, the hugely popular online treasure hunt that has been a great success in the Philippines since its launch in 2009.

Similar to its first run, the Purple Hunt 2.0 will have participants hunt for online clues for 5 weeks using different Yahoo! properties for amazing offline prizes including the grand prize of a brand new Purple Hyundai i10.

“Given the incredible success of Purple Hunt back in 2009, Yahoo! is very excited to be bringing back the treasure hunt experience to Pinoy users once again,” said Arlene Amarante, Yahoo! Philippines Sales Director. “With the Purple Hunt 2.0, users can continue to learn about Yahoo! and get more chances to win great prizes at the same time.”

Competition Mechanics
Joining the competition is just a click away - all that’s needed is an internet connection, a mouse and a hunter’s instinct. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to join. All they need to do is register at the Purple Hunt 2.0 microsite found at http://yahoopurplehunt2.com.ph. Existing Yahoo! users can use their accounts to register while those new to Yahoo! will need to create an account. Once registered, participants will need to open their Yahoo! Messenger account and add YPurpleMaster to their contact list. The YPurpleMaster will be the participants’ source of clues throughout the competition.

Getting Started
To begin the treasure hunt and win instant prizes along the way, participants need to add the YPurpleMaster to their Yahoo! Messenger list which is a system generated program that will automatically add them upon their request. The YPurpleMaster will then provide participants with instructions on how to obtain the keyword to open the box. Once the participants obtain the keyword, they need to go to http://yahoopurplehunt2.com.ph and submit the keyword in the Yahoo! Messenger Purple Box.

Steps to winning the Purplized Hyundai i10
Winning prizes and receiving clues are not limited to the online world. Offline, Yahoo has partnered with Magic 89.9 and Fox International Channels (Fox, Star World, Star Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Crime, FX, tvN, National Geographic, Channel V). Magic 89.9 will be airing the Magic Minute where the station’s DJs will randomly play the Yahoo! yodel at certain times of the day from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM. During the Magic Minute, the keyword for the week will be revealed. Weekly clues will also be distributed on air on the Fox International Channels and all participants have to do is watch Fox (from 9:00 AM – 6:00PM) and wait for the Yahoo! commercial where the keyword will appear. Once participants obtain the key word, they will need to type it in the Purple Hunt 2.0 microsite to stand a chance to win prizes.

On top of this, participants will be asked to take a photo of themselves with any Hyundai car –whether it’s their own or on the street or in a showroom- and upload their image at www.flickr.com at the YahooPurpleHunt2 official Flickr group. Clues will also be distributed on the Flickr page so participants will have to look at all the photos carefully!

Once completed, participants will stand a chance to win instant prizes such as Nokia X2-01 mobile phones, Nokia MD-9 speakers, Smart Bro Bro prepaid pocket wifi and more. To be eligible to win the Hyundai i10 grand prize, participants will need to complete all online and offline activities for the entire 5-week duration of the campaign.

Finale Event
Staying true to the treasure hunt theme, participants will have to hunt for their own invites to the grand finale of the Purple Hunt 2.0. The grand finale will be a huge celebration of all things Yahoo! – fanfare, music and celebrities to culminate the 5-week campaign. The grand prize winner will also be awarded during the event where 17 finalists from Luzon, GMA (Greater Manila Area) and 3 from Visayas and Mindanao will compete for the Hyundai i10. All participants will have to attend the finale event should they want to be eligible for the grand prize but no finalist goes home empty handed. All finalists will still go home with cool Yahoo! prizes.

To learn more about the Purple Hunt 2.0, log on to http://yahoopurplehunt2.com.ph. Participants may join the games in the microsite beginning March 15, 2011.

Facebook stats in Philippines from Yehey! infographics

Inforgraphic_Yehey_01

I received this infographics from the Yehey! team and the infographics contains some info about the stats of how many Facebook users in our country and also products who are at Facebook. The top and most "like" fanpages are also listed. I just don't know if the stats for male and female are for the Philippines only, there's much more users of female than male when it comes to Facebook.

SMART Buddy Facebook-Web app Pasaload

1
SMART brings us a new way of loading our mobile phones or just give a Pasaload or receive Pasaload from friends and family. I encounter so many times a delay of pasaload or reload to my load provider here in the neighborhood, but this time SMART launches an app within Facebook. Now we have a better and fast Pasaload activity with just a click of a button.

instructions below
1. All you have to do is visit http://apps.facebook.com/pasaload
2. Allow it to connec to your Facebook
3. Add your mobile number
4. Add your Pasaload contacts
5. Drag the numbers into the Send and Receive boxes
6. Choose how much the load
7. then Pasaload it!

I haven't tried it, but I'm going to find first some friends who are using SMART so that I can pasaload them something. I'll add a review after doing an experiment.

let's try it! just PM me if you want to pasaload me ha.
