5 Google Docs secrets

I learned from this video that I can do drag and drop images to my Google Doc files and also can insert images from Google Image search, I didn't know about that and the fun part here is that I can drag and drop all my doc files to my Google Docs and also save and back up all of it by batches. Awesome!!

I'm heavily using Google Docs for awhile now because I'm always online and I share my files to some of my friends to do collaboration edit and view of our files.

Don't be fooled by that fake "Facebook Dislike button"

As I opened my Facebook account and then I saw this two message posted in my FB wall, I started to read it careful and study if this is legit, and then I hovered my mouse arrow pointing to that link "Enable Dislike Button", then I saw that the link will direct to a Facebook fake page. I didn't think twice and I immediately remove this post in my wall. I started to do a research and found an article "'Enable Dislike Button' scam spreading on Facebook" , After reading it... I learned that the Facebook Dislike Button is a fake and a scam. If ever that Facebook will have its own Dislike button, there will be announcements and also news spreading online, so its better to Google it first, research and read, before we click it.

Its funny that some people wanted to earn money and they got the idea to use this FB app to scam people with their money generating online survey recommendation. Although that the directed link to website is not harmless, but still an annoying item in my FB wall to see a fake FB links floating. If you saw one...delete it right away and do not click it. If you click the link and posted the link in your address bar, all of your FB network and friends will receive the same FB app note in their wall, telling them to enable their FB dislike buttons.

Facebook users should be very careful and aware of these fake FB apps and links

Philippines – the social networking capital of the world

This is the new nickname that our country just received after a report came in online and our country got the number 1 spot as the most heavy user of Facebook in the world, there are other countries that are actively using Facebook, but this time the stats and numbers give the story and I know that the local mainstream media is a big influence on this number and give a big push to all of us here to use Facebook. I first read the news here at Carlo’s blog http://www.newmedia.com.ph/philippines-is-the-social-networking-capital-of-the-world/ and he explained that “Philippines has the highest penetration of Facebook in the world at 93.9%. Penetration means the total number of Facebook users vs the total number of Internet users in the Philippines.”

The main source of the news came here at http://247wallst.com/2011/05/09/the-ten-nations-where-facebook-rules-the-internet/ and they showed here the Top 10 nations where Facebook rules the net, and they gave a nice stats based on data provided by comScore, Inside Facebook, New Media Trend Watch, and ZDNet and announced that the Philippines is the number 1 users of Facebook.

My prediction was right last year that Facebook will dominate our screens and now I’m a little bit scared that we are the heaviest users of Facebook and this will attract lots of Facebook activities in the coming months. I’m not really sure if networking and community building is still good in Facebook for your company or small communities, but I still suggest that we should start moving and not rely on Facebook forever, there might be a time that Facebook can be the next Friendster hahahah. But still, Facebook rocks and I’m still looking for other alternatives and how do I maintain my online community there.

Big Questions come into my mind like “what if Facebook is gone after we woke up in the morning?” . The question and answer is similar to.. When Plurk is down.we move back to Twitter..but that was the old story…everyone now sticks to Twitter…and if Twitter is down then everyone moves back to Facebook. Maybe my answer will be, “I’ll go back to Twitter and Multiply if ever Facebook crashes down”, a good example also is that…I heavily use Facebook and Twitter after Blogger.com is down.

Although that the news can also show that our internet service, connection and access are doing good, broadband or even mobile are now semi-perfectly working fine and then in the coming months if SMART’s LTE and Globe’s HSPA+ launches in every part of the city, the continued growth of Facebook users will be doubled, because the access to any internet connection will affect the stats again and also bring more users to social networking sites.

Flock browser will end this April 26

 
Here’s another end of service drama that hits all Flock browser user, and yes.. I’m one of them. This browser was introduced to me by my sis and after install it, I used it again after 4 months, because of my busy schedule and I forgot to use it and try it and misses a lot of the browser’s feature in cross posting status infos to 2 different social network like Twitter and Facebook, I can even monitor all status updates in real time by looking at the right side bar of my Flock browser..(more story below)

But then, Flock announced that they will stop updating and give support of service this coming April 26, the browser was bought by another company and looks like that all terms and services has been passed to this company. Oh well..another end of service drama… I’m now converting myself to Rockmelt browser. Even that the Flock browser died, but the technology behind it and as the supreme leader as a social media browser,might relaunch soon under Zynga and might use their Flock’s tech for their social media games.

For me, Flock is the best browser with social network monitoring and posting features.

Google Videos playback will end this April 29

I love uploading some of my videos in Google Video and because of their video upload client from my desktop, I can upload videos without using any of my browser and its fun, because the video at Google Video are much more lighter and easy to view it. Then last 2009, I tried to upload another set of videos and found out that the upload button or link are no longer visible and then my uploading app no longer works too.  (More story below)

Then I decided just to use my Multiply Video or YouTube, Then fast forward to this year, I received an email update that the Google Video playback will be discontinued and end it this April 29. Now they tell us we have the option to download the video or migrate it to our YouTube. Then I read some of their past updates and discovered that they focused more on developing that video search for Google and decided to drop down the Google Video. Well, its okay for me, because Youtube works perfectly fine and most of my videos are already hosted there. Its a good run for Google Video and I like to say good bye to them and thanks for hosting some of my vids for work, for my family, and for my blog.

Here’s my laptop, my food and the card. I ordered a Bagel sandwich with cream cheese that goes with a free hot coffee. I also requested for a sunny side up egg and it only priced at P10 for that extra egg. Kainis nga lang at naubusan ako nung Food for Thought, one of my favorite breakfast meal here at CBTL, that meal was first introduced to me by Diane Hidalgo during a meeting about Mac Pro book last year.

I just received a press statement from Smart and its about that they just evolved and will serve a faster speed of mobile broadband or mobile internet connection up to 50mbps speed, and they will launch the big evolution this April 21-24 in Boracay, SMART will set up some demo booths where users can try it themselves the speed of the LTE technology that they used for a new fast mobile internet connection.(more story below)

There are times that I always complain that my internet is so slow, I can no longer depend on the speed of our internet connection here at home and because that the way of the internet changes, the surfing behavior changes also. The 300kbps speed is already obsolete for me and I want more speed for my internet connection. I really want to upgrade and we're waiting for a new connection to our other home and we want that to be installed with a fastest net connection.

But I'm glad that the internet provider is so slow and then I found another good deals of internet service that will be perfect for our home.

Competition Mechanics

The Japan Crisis illustrates a growing need for detailed earthquake and tsunami related information while evoking a deep sense of concern towards natural disasters

PHILLIPINES, 15 March 2011 – As Japan grapples from the aftermath of one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded, people all over the world resorted to prayers while seeking more information on the disaster. In an attempt to find out the top concerns of online users during this recent earthquake catastrophe, Yahoo! has meticulously aggregated searches from all over APAC (includes Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India and Southeast Asia) to reveal detailed information on the most searched keywords - ‘Earthquake’ and ‘Tsunami’.

Yahoo! Search Trends witnessed a sharp spike in a short period of time relating to the news and information on the Japan earthquake and tsunami. In Taiwan, ‘earthquake’ and ‘tsunami’ related search queries increased 80,000% in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake. In Hong Kong, the search volume for keyword ‘earthquake’ spiked 4,000% and ‘tsunami’ 10,600% and both have remained the most searched keywords since then. Similarly, Korea witnessed a spike of 23,520% on the term ‘earthquake’ and 40,025% for ‘tsunami’. All of this reveals the deep impact the earthquake has rendered in the minds and hearts of people across APAC.

Users also resorted to making specific keywords searches with some variations such as ‘Japan earthquake’, ‘Japan tsunami’, ‘earthquake 2011’, ‘Japanese tsunami 2011’. In Singapore and Malaysia, the keyword ‘Japan tsunami’ had an increase of 30,450% and 9,100% respectively just within a day after the tsunami struck. Apart from specific keywords, APAC users looked out for graphical imagery of the disaster with searches on maps, videos and images of the disaster observing a significant spike.

With the news of the impact of the massive earthquake on the nuclear reactor and the fear of a nuclear meltdown, inquiries pertaining to nuclear energy, radiation, meltdown and its effects rose in significant numbers. Yahoo! Search Trends findings also revealed that this unfortunate tragedy has reminded users of Ukraine’s Chernobyl Nuclear disaster in 1986. Searches on Chernobyl disaster, explosion, Chernobyl radioactive clouds was observed. Evidence of people being reminiscent of the past disasters also reflected in the Philippine searches for ‘ring of fire’ and ‘fault line map’, further illustrating the growing concern of the Filipinos and a stark reminder of their country’s vulnerability to quakes.

The search count on Yahoo! with regards to predictions and prophecies on the Japanese disaster, the ‘Nikkei” and ‘Tokyo stock exchange’, movies with disaster scenes like “Sinking of Japan”, “2012” and “The Day after Tomorrow” and rumoured death of Japanese personalities such as creator of Pokemon, Hello Kitty, actress Maria Ozawa, has been on the rise since the earthquake struck Japan.


A global concern and unified initiative
In times like this, we often see the softer side of people, their willingness to reach out and show solidarity at the time of crisis. In an effort to raise awareness, Yahoo! Answers in Singapore posted questions to educate online users - “What is the difference between a tsunami and a tidal wave because some broadcasters use the words interchangeably?”

A noteworthy observation by Yahoo! Search Trends was on the searches for the latest news updates and information on the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In the Philippines, there was a drastic increase in the searches like ‘Tsunami Japan 2011’, ‘Earthquake Japan Tsunami’, and ‘Japan Earthquake and Tsunami’. Among the most searched topics, the Filipinos were also searching on several earthquake-related terms specifically to the Philippines on how susceptible the Philippines is to an earthquake. Some searches are ‘Philippines Fault Line Map’, ‘Pacific Ring of Fire Map’ and ‘Marikina Fault Line’.

Yahoo! too has pledged support to Japan during this unfortunate tragedy. Amongst several of its initiatives for the disaster, Yahoo! News is providing ‘How to Help links’ and the Yahoo! Frontpage is featuring a modified logo that drives traffic to its ‘How to Help links’.

Further, Yahoo! Korea is conducting an online campaign to raise funds of up to KRW 50 million for Japan earthquake relief in partnership with World Vision on its donation page, ‘Yahoo! Nanuri’ (http://kr.news.yahoo.com/nanuri/). This campaign which began on March 13, is in tandem with the global Yahoo! initiative for Japan and was the first such initiative among industry players to reach out to the on-line audience. As of March 14, Yahoo! Korea received donations of up to KRW 3,557,000.

Yahoo! Taiwan has raised US$1.17M for Red Cross and other non-profit organisations. Yahoo! Taiwan’s News' Face Book account has generated nearly 400,000 users participating in the action of "Pray for Japan" on Wretch and has seen more than 3500 blogs posted.

Yahoo!Kimo Charity, a platform that plays a bridging role to link up users and beneficiaries through the assistance of Non-profit Organisations from various fields, has raised NT 30 million dollars in donations within 72 hours and has further added 2 projects to source for an additional NT 10 million fund-raising.

Within Yahoo!, the company will match up to $1,000 per calendar year for gifts made to non-profit organisations by each of its full-time employees. PHILIPPINES, 11 FEBRUARY, 2011 – Love is in the air and Yahoo! Search Trends finds that Filipinos are true romantics at heart. Fully geared to celebrate the romantic day, Filipinos are looking out for just the right kind of messages, gifts and songs to woo the heart of their loved ones.

Findings from Yahoo! Search Trends show that the Filipinos surfed the web for Valentine’s messages, unique quotes and also for wedding related items. Valentine’s being a special occasion has been a season for marriage in the Philippines and hence the searches on wedding related items like cakes, flowers and dresses surged for the month of February.
Yahoo! Search Trends top Valentine’s searches are:

1. Greetings
2. Gifts
3. Shopping
4. Entertainment
5. Decoration

“Beyond popular searches for Valentine day messages, fun quotes and pop-up card searches in Valentine’s messages by the young, ranked high in the list. Filipinos wanted to show their special touch and focused on unique concepts and ideas for gifts. Interesting to observe is that prom and wedding related searches surfaced around this time and seems like the big day would double as a family reunion for a lot of the families,” said Zul Rejab, Editorial Manager, Search Content Analysis.

Entertainment as a category ranked amongst the top searches. The song ‘Valentine’ a duet between Martina McBride and Jim Brickman remained the most popular song for Valentine’s. Cute trends worthwhile to take note are searches on Disney cartoons characters such as Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine and Pocahontas for e-cards.

‘What to do and not to do’ on Valentine’s was a quirky search that resonated across all of Southeast Asia. This reflects the perfectionist disposition of the people in these countries who wanted an ideal and smooth Valentine’s celebration. Vietnam and Philippines remained among the most artistic Southeast Asian countries that preferred hand-made gifts as a sincere way to show their love and affection.

Being traditional at heart, the Filipinos not only searched for love ideas but also for decorations to rev up the day. Searches on Valentine hearts, cupids and angles spiked for the season and this could be attributed to the tradition in schools of making cards for family and friends on Valentine’s. Concerts and movies seemed to be in high demand this time as the Filipinos embark on the season for romance.
